The olecranon is the bony prominence of the elbow. It is positioned directly under the skin of the elbow without much protection from muscles or other soft tissues. An olecranon fracture is a very common elbow fracture among adult patients.
In this video, Professor Munjed Al Muderis takes you through the repair and fixation of an olecranon fracture. For more information on elbow fracture surgical interventions please see Elbow Intercondylar Fracture Surgical Procedure.
If the ankle fracture or ankle dislocation has resulted in the ankle joint becoming unstable, surgery is recommended as the best course of action.
During the surgical procedure the bone fragments are first reduced (repositioned) into their normal alignment. The bones are then positioned and held together by a plate attached to the outer bone using pins and screws. In some cases a screw or rod inserted into the bone may be used to keep the bone fragments together while they heal. The surgery usually takes about two hours but surgical time will ultimately depend on the severity of the injury.
In this video Professor Munjed Al Muderis demonstrates the steps involved in this very effective operation to treat an ankle fracture.
Using Patient Specific Implants is a very new technology but can greatly aid in knee arthroplasty surgery.
This is Part 2 of a two part video series demonstrating the procedure. In this video Professor Munjed Al Muderis demonstrates dealing with the Tibial portion of the knee.
